Every year, 4th grade students from Houghton Elementary School participate in the school garden project at PSCG. In June the students join community gardeners to plant beds with a variety of vegetables, herbs, and flowers. Volunteer gardeners help to maintain the plots throughout the summer. When the students return in the autumn as 5th graders, gardeners cook and share a harvest lunch with the bounty from the school plots.
Since 2010, many students have enjoyed trying new vegetables and learning about where their food comes from. This project has also been a joyous opportunity for gardeners to engage with the broader community.
